The Practice on DVD - Another Review
Currentfilm.com has published another review of the recently released dvd boxset of The Practice - Volume One starring Lara Flynn Boyle:
"VIDEO: The Practice is presented by Fox in 1.33:1 full-frame. The presentation quality is about equal to broadcast quality, although there are some minor concerns present. Sharpness and detail are not noteworthy and the picture can sometimes appear a tad soft, but the picture never appeared so soft as to be hazy or blurry. Some minor grain is seen, but no other issues were seen on the presentation. Colors remain a tad subdued by intent and seem accurately presented.
SOUND: The series is presented in Dolby 2.0. Audio is crisp and clear, with no distortion or other issues.
EXTRAS: Only a brief featurette, "Setting up the Practice", which combines new and old interviews with clips to provide an overview of the development and first season of the show. Hopefully, future sets will provide more in the way of supplemental features."
Final Thoughts: I'm not as much of a fan of The Practice as the show that followed it (Boston Legal), but that's not to say that The Practice doesn't make for riveting TV, as the series boasts a marvelous ensemble cast, sharp dialogue and fast pacing. The DVD presentation offers fine audio/video quality, but minimal extras. Recommended.

The Practice on DVD - First Reviews
While surfing and researching I found the first dvd-reviews of The Practice in which Lara Flynn Boyle stars as assistant disctrict attorney Helen Gamble. Blog Critics Magazine writes about the boxset: "Called The Practice – Volume 1 (instead of Season 1) for a reason, the 4-disc set hold 13 episodes which did not actually air in the order you’ll find them in here. Originally written as a complete season, only six episodes aired before summer hiatus. The remaining seven episodes were interspersed throughout the second season. Here you’ll find them back to back, which is far more effective."
What about picture and sound quality? Please read the following lines by DVDFanatic: "The best that this set features is slightly better than broadcast quality. The video is rough and grainy, and the audio a simple Dolby Digital Stereo mix. Presented in the show’s original aspect ratio of Full Frame (1.33:1), this transfer is nothing worth noting. Just better than taping the show off air, this is ultimately an underwhelming transfer." And last but not least some external thoughts about the bonus features written by Canmag.com: "The Practice has a featurette on creating the show. Kelley, cast and crew speak about the show's mission statement, characters and the aesthetic of the series. It comes from old EPK interviews, because of the locations (and copyright date), but it's still relevant. It's a solid 18 minute piece."

Red Rock West
"Red Rock West is a diabolical movie that exists sneakily between a western and a thriller, between a film noir and a black comedy", wrote Roger Ebert about John Dahl's masterpiece in 1994. Please find enclosed three collages I found in which Lara Flynn Boyle shows some of her talent. Thanks to the original publisher for creating such a beautiful artwork.
